Making up a story about exorcism, a guy from Nghe An took a woman to a motel to... exorcise the spirit.

The Dong Da District Police Department (Hanoi) said they are temporarily detaining Nguyen Van Cuong (born 2001), residing in Nghi Phu Commune, Vinh City, Nghe An Province, to investigate the act of rape. This is the subject who fabricated the story of exorcism to lure the victim into a motel and force her to have sex.

Previously, on June 10, Trung Liet Ward Police received a complaint from the victim, Ms. H. (born in 1993), about Nguyen Van Cuong's rape at a motel on Thai Ha Street (Trung Liet Ward, Dong Da District, Hanoi).

Through verification and clarification, the Dong Da District Police General Investigation Team determined that the incident originated on June 7, when Cuong and T. (H.'s younger brother) played video games on Yen Lang Street. After that, Trung Liet Ward Police conducted an administrative check and found that both of them did not have identification papers, so they were taken to the headquarters for questioning.

At the police station, through talking, Cuong learned that T. had an older sister, Ms. H., who owned a hair salon. When the police station let Cuong go home first, he went to the hair salon to inform Ms. H. that T. was being held by the police station and told her to come and take her younger brother home.

After Ms. H. came to pick T. up, Cuong went to Ms. H.'s hair salon to eat with everyone. During the meal, Cuong told a very tragic story about his life, that his parents had divorced, he lived a miserable life... so he gained everyone's sympathy, and Ms. H. gave him 600,000 VND.

Also at this restaurant, Cuong knew that Ms. H. had had an abortion, so he made up a story about exorcism and spirit release, making Ms. H. believe him. After gaining trust, Cuong continued to tell the story about spirit release to invite Ms. H. to the motel at 10:30 p.m. on June 7. Here, Cuong lit 3 incense sticks and asked Ms. H. to kneel down to pray for spirit release. After that, Cuong continued to give reasons for the spirit following and asked to examine Ms. H. to see "if the spirit can reincarnate again"...

Ms. H. believed what Cuong said about the spirit and was afraid that she was really possessed, so she followed Cuong's requests. A while later, Cuong forced himself on Ms. H. when she did not agree.

Not to mention, in cases like this, the victim often has to struggle mentally, and is very ashamed, so even though the incident happened on the 7th, it took Ms. H. 3 days to report it. The report was also because the victim told her close friend, this close friend told Ms. H.'s husband, and then Ms. H.'s husband went to find Cuong.

The Dong Da District Police Department has detained Cuong since June 11 to investigate the act of rape. Notably, Cuong had previously been a character in a number of social media posts about the unfortunate situation of "an orphaned brother from Nghe An coming to Saigon to find his lost brother"; or "a young man hitchhiking to Saigon to find his lost sister who was adopted because they were orphans"... with the purpose of defrauding and calling for people to donate money.

After each time the articles were posted, Cuong often shared the link on Facebook, the incidents attracted thousands of likes... But then people discovered that the content had changed while the photo was of the same person, suspected of being fake, so they became suspicious and boycotted articles like this. Dong Da District Police also warned people not to trust websites that reported inaccurate news, causing people to misunderstand and share love in the wrong place.
