(Baonghean.vn) - The Department of Ophthalmology, Nghe An General Hospital said: The Department is treating Mr. Le Viet Ly (73 years old) with dermatitis, swelling all over the face, and necrosis of tissue at the tip of the left nostril due to complications during the unscientific treatment of a stye.

About 2 weeks ago, Mr. Ly had a stye on his left eye. Listening to the advice of people around him, at noon, he went to treat himself by acupuncture on his face and back in the hope of curing his eye disease. Unexpectedly, by evening, Mr. Ly's entire face, eyes, and the left half of his mouth were swollen. The left side of his mouth was numb, and he could only eat and drink liquids poured through the right side of his mouth. Realizing that his condition was getting worse, the next morning, Mr. Ly went to a lower-level medical facility for a check-up.

Doctors from the Ophthalmology Department, Nghe An General Hospital examine patient Le Viet Ly.

“Patient Ly came to Nghe An General Hospital for treatment after 12 days of treatment at a lower-level hospital, but with no progress. On August 9, the patient was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of severe squinting, chalazion, blepharitis, and open eyelids due to facial scarring from extensive dermatitis causing contraction. The patient's face was swollen, necrotic, and the tissue at the tip of the left nostril was completely lost, and the facial skin was severely infected. The patient had to actively use antibiotics and clean the face to prevent infection. At the same time, we are controlling the risk of corneal ulcers caused by open eyelid complications,” said Master Trinh Thi Ha, Department of Ophthalmology.

Sau 4 ngày điều trị, da mặt của bệnh nhân Lý đã đỡ nhiễm trùng và hoại tử.
After 4 days of treatment, patient Ly's facial skin was less infected and necrotic.

Up to today, after 4 days of treatment at Nghe An General Hospital, the patient has progressed well, the infection and necrosis on his face have subsided.

Through the case of patient Ly, ophthalmologists recommend: Styes and chalazions are common diseases of the eyelid margin. When sick, you need to go to a specialized medical facility for examination; you should not treat chalazions and styes by arbitrarily squeezing pus or applying medication without following instructions, because these methods can easily cause the damage to spread or recur, even causing dangerous complications.
