To help underprivileged students in border areas continue their education, the Nghe An Border Guard Command has coordinated with the Party committees and authorities of Mon Son commune (Con Cuong district) and Tam Quang commune (Tuong Duong district) to build and renovate dormitories... meeting the living, studying, and accommodation needs of the students.

Lieutenant Colonel Bui Quan Tuan, Commander of Tam Quang Border Guard Station, said: The construction of a border dormitory for students in Tam Quang commune stems from the fact that this commune has two villages, Tung Huong and Tan Huong, located 12-15 km away from the center. With the resources received, the Tam Quang Border Guard Station began construction of the dormitory on July 10, 2024. Photo: Nguyen Dao

Middle school students in the two villages face significant difficulties attending school, especially those from poor and near-poor households, due to the long distances from home to school. The Tam Quang Border Guard Post held four meetings with the Party Committee, the People's Committee of Tam Quang commune, and Tam Quang Middle School to agree on building a dormitory to support the students. The construction cost, exceeding 300 million VND, was raised through fundraising and connections with charitable organizations and individuals. To date, the province has two "Accompanying Border Area Dormitories" models implemented and sponsored by Border Guard Posts: the Tam Quang Commune Dormitory (Tuong Duong District) and the Mon Son Secondary School Dormitory (Con Cuong District). It is known that many years ago, the "Accompanying Dormitories in Border Areas" model was implemented by the Mon Son Border Guard Station at the dormitory of Mon Son Secondary School (Con Cuong district), welcoming Dan Lai ethnic minority students from Bung and Co Phat villages (20 km from the school) to study. It is expected that in the 2024-2025 school year, the Mon Son Secondary School dormitory will accommodate 90 students. The "Accompanying Dormitories in Border Areas" model not only contributes to supporting and helping Dan Lai ethnic minority students in the boarding area to have better living and learning conditions, but also strengthens solidarity and close ties between Border Guard officers and soldiers and local people, contributing to building a strong all-people border defense system in the border area of Nghe An province.
