Over the past week, more than half of the global deaths have been recorded in the US, Russia, Brazil, Mexico and India. By region, South America has the highest number of Covid-19 deaths in the world, accounting for 21% of all deaths, followed by North America and Eastern Europe, each accounting for more than 14% of all deaths.
Over the past week, an average of 8,000 deaths have been recorded worldwide each day, or 5 deaths every minute. However, the global death rate has slowed in recent weeks.
The good news is that in recent days, the world has focused on vaccinating poorer countries. The World Health Organization announced last week that the COVAX mechanism, for the first time, will only distribute vaccines to countries with the lowest vaccination coverage./.
