Commendation and reward of 94 exemplary officials of the Elderly Association

The Vietnam Association of the Elderly was formerly the Association of Elderly People for National Salvation. After 25 years of establishment and development, the Association has attracted 9.48 million members, the organization has gradually developed, and is the core in caring for and promoting the role of the elderly.

In Nghe An alone, the Association of the Elderly was established in 21/21 districts, cities and towns; 460/460 communes, wards and towns have organized the Association; there are 399,804 members (reaching a rate of 96.20% of the elderly joining the Association).

Over the past years, the activities of the Provincial Association of the Elderly have achieved many important results. Notably, the work of building and strengthening the Association's organization, performing well the work of caring for and promoting the role of the elderly associated with the patriotic emulation movement of "old age, higher aspirations", setting a shining example for the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

The emulation movement “Old age - Bright example” has created a vibrant competitive atmosphere among all elderly members of the province. With many rich and diverse forms of implementation, the movement has achieved many remarkable results and created many new points in the development of the association organization.

The Association actively builds clubs to gather a large number of elderly people to participate in activities. Up to now, the whole province has built 11,860 Elderly Clubs, attracting 296,463 elderly people to participate; of which there are 149 "Intergenerational Self-Help" Clubs. The Provincial Elderly Association also coordinated with the Department of Culture and Sports to organize the Provincial Elderly Sports Tournament with the following events: volleyball, badminton, chess, and table tennis.

The Association of the Elderly regularly organizes activities to promote the role of members and actively carry out the tasks of local Party committees and authorities. Every year, the elderly of the province donate 314,174m²- 332.136m²land, contributed hundreds of thousands of working days; supported from 35 to 37 billion VND to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas...

The elderly also actively participate in building a strong political system. Every year, over 37,000 elderly people participate in social work from team leader level and above (Party, government, mass organizations, education promotion, people's inspection, mediation team).

Speaking at the conference, comrade Bui Dinh Long - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and commended the achievements that the Elderly Association at all levels in the province have achieved in the past time.

He hoped that the elderly would continue to apply their experiences and promote their role in participating in local activities. Advise the Party Committee and the government to fully implement the contents of the Law on the Elderly. For the Association at all levels, continue to innovate activities and diversify emulation contents suitable to the abilities and conditions of the elderly. Create the best conditions for the elderly to fully and promptly enjoy the policies of the Party and the State to live happily, healthily, and happily in family and society... Promote the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example", actively contributing to the economic, social, defense and security development of the province.

The conference commended and rewarded 94 outstanding officials of the Association of the Elderly with achievements in the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example" for 5 years (2015 - 2020); of which, 35 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Central Association of the Elderly of Vietnam; 16 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; 48 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Provincial Association of the Elderly.

On this occasion, the Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Fatherland Front Committee also presented the Provincial Association of the Elderly with a banner bearing the words "Nghe An Association of the Elderly - Setting a good example, contributing to building and protecting the homeland and country".
