On the morning of May 27th, a conference honoring 260 exemplary and influential individuals from various ethnic groups residing in five provinces – Lang Son, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, and Cao Bang – was held in Cao Bang province.

Playing a pivotal role, influential local figures actively coordinate with Party committees, government agencies, the Fatherland Front at all levels, and grassroots organizations to disseminate the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws to all segments of the population. Simultaneously, these influential figures encourage their children, families, and clans to abide by the law and sign pledges to prevent crime and social vices. As a result, for many years, political security, social order, and border security have been maintained, thereby making a positive contribution to the building, protection, and development of the country.

Many examples of people with prestige can be mentioned.

For example, in Dong Phuc commune, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province, Mr. Ly Van Hau, a Mong ethnic minority from Na Pha village, is a respected figure among the local people. He has mobilized the villagers to participate in the fight against crime and actively engage in the "All People Protect National Security" movement. Through his efforts, the villagers have voluntarily surrendered hunting rifles and actively fought against social evils.

In Cao Bang province, there are Mr. Trieu Van Thang, a Nung ethnic minority member and a respected figure in Le Lai commune, Thach An district; Mr. Vu Van Luong, a Tay ethnic minority member from De Tham ward, Cao Bang city; and Mr. Trieu Van Khinh, a Nung ethnic minority member from Lung Pu commune, Bao Lac district, who have repeatedly participated with local organizations in combating and preventing social evils and ensuring social security and order.

In the fields of socio-economic development, poverty reduction, and new rural construction, many reputable individuals with excellent economic skills have emerged, serving as role models for ethnic minorities to learn from and emulate. Currently, in the five aforementioned provinces, there are thousands of farming households that are successful in production and business, with an average annual income of 100 million VND or more. This model is increasingly being replicated.

Mr. Vu Se Cu, a Mong ethnic minority from Ma Le commune, Dong Van district, Ha Giang province, and his family have cultivated grass for livestock farming on the Ha Giang rocky plateau to develop their family economy. To date, his family raises over 50 cows, 150 goats, and sells tons of pork annually. They have also reclaimed paddy fields, earning an average income of over 100 million VND per year. Each year, he harvests and prunes over 20 hectares of his family's planted forest, providing building materials for poor households and helping local people build 14 tile kilns. He also lends land to poor households for growing corn and rice, and raising buffalo and cattle. He has been awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister and has become a shining example for the people in this area.

To date, the entire northern mountainous region has elected 22,695 reputable individuals representing various age groups, backgrounds, and ethnic groups, holding different positions and working in all areas of social life.

Speaking at the conference, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Head of the Northwest Steering Committee, warmly praised the delegates representing thousands of influential people from the northern mountainous provinces.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that throughout the revolutionary history, the ethnic minority people in the northern mountainous region have always been united, contributing alongside the people of the whole country to create immense strength in the struggle for national liberation, as well as in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Under the leadership of the Party, the ethnic minority people in the northern mountainous region have wholeheartedly followed the revolution with many outstanding and exemplary figures. These examples further enrich the history and tradition of the nation's struggle for national liberation and defense.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his wish that influential local figures would continue to play their role, working together with ethnic minority communities to actively develop production, eradicate hunger and reduce poverty; and participate in the fight against social evils, ensuring social security and order.
