Türkiye concerned about US building observation post on Syrian border

According to Reuters, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that his country is concerned about the US plan to set up "observation posts" on the border between Syria and Türkiye.
Mr. Akar said that during a meeting with Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford and other US officials during a recent visit to Canada, he affirmed that establishing observation posts would have a negative impact on the US image in Türkiye.
Taiwan leader resigns as chairman of ruling party

Tsai Ing-wen resigned as leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) after the party suffered heavy losses in local elections, severely damaging her re-election prospects. "As chairwoman of the ruling party, I will take full responsibility for the results of today's local elections,"AFPquoted Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen telling reporters.
Ms. Tsai and the DPP have faced criticism over reforms including pension cuts, as well as concerns about deteriorating relations with China, which views Taiwan as part of its territory to be reclaimed. Ms. Tsai’s resignation as chairwoman of the ruling party is a major blow to her prospects for re-election as Taiwan’s president in 2020.
Second US soldier killed in Afghanistan in a month

NATO says another US soldier has been killed in Afghanistan, bringing the total number of US troops killed in the war-torn country to nine this year.
NATO's "Predictable Support" mission has not yet released the soldier's identity or cause of death. He is the second US soldier to be killed this month in Afghanistan.
More than 2,000 US troops have died in Afghanistan since the US launched an invasion to overthrow the Taliban government in Afghanistan in 2001. US casualties have fallen significantly since late 2014 when the Afghan military took over the country's security role from the US-led NATO coalition.

A demonstration by more than 5,000 people following the “Yellow Vest” movement on November 24 on the Champs-Elysees avenue in Paris, France, to protest the government's policy of increasing fuel taxes quickly turned into a riot.
The atmosphere became tense as protesters in yellow vests pushed down barriers and street furniture to set up a barricade in the middle of the avenue.
The National Police were forced to use water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protesters. According to initial police statements, eight protesters were arrested for rioting and throwing explosives. More than 3,000 police officers were mobilized in Paris and surrounding cities.
Two former Brazilian presidents stand trial for corruption and money laundering

Former Brazilian Presidents Luiz Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff have gone on trial in a new corruption case over allegations of illegal cartel.
According to the indictment and based on the evidence gathered, the two former leaders participated in a “criminal organization” for a period until 2016, as members of the Workers’ Party (PT), committing corruption and money laundering crimes to embezzle money from the state oil company Petrobras. The PT leaders are also accused of receiving about $387 million in bribes at that time.
