(Baonghean.vn) - On August 11, CNN quoted diplomatic sources as saying that North Korea has rejected the US's "repeated" proposals on denuclearization, calling them "gangster-like" proposals.

The news agency said the US has made and continues to make “specific proposals to initiate and achieve fully verified denuclearization,” including a time frame.

The source claimed that “vague promises” made at the meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un last June led to a diplomatic disconnect.

CNN added that the brief document issued at the summit did not include a time frame, specific promises or milestones to be achieved, allowing both sides to interpret it as they wished.

Washington has linked the lifting of sanctions on Pyongyang to the North's complete and verifiable denuclearization, while its opponents have insisted that sanctions be lifted before they take any further steps.

CNN quoted an official familiar with North Korea's position on the issue as saying that further negotiations between the US and North Korea hinge on Washington's willingness to make a bold move and agree to a peace treaty with Pyongyang.

North Korea says the US is going back on its promises. North Korea issued a statement at the United Nations on August 9, insisting that elements of the US government were not living up to the spirit of the dialogue at the summit between Mr. Kim and Mr. Trump in Singapore.

According to the statement, while Pyongyang has taken “practical denuclearization steps such as ceasing nuclear tests and ICBM launches” and “broad measures” such as repatriating the remains of US soldiers from the Korean War, “the US has responded to our expectations by inciting international sanctions and pressure against the DPRK.”

The statement did not blame the US President, but pointed to a number of senior officials in the US administration, whom North Korea accused of going against Mr. Trump's will.

Also on August 9, North Korea criticized US calls for international sanctions enforcement and asserted that progress in denuclearization promises cannot be as expected if Washington follows an "outdated action scenario".

Pyongyang has urged Washington to take reciprocal measures to its goodwill gestures, saying the US has responded to its expectations by initiating sanctions and international pressure.
