What do Ukrainian armed forces soldiers hate most?
Ukrainian soldiers are extremely dissatisfied with the constant shortage of troops on the front, said former Prosecutor General and former Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko in an interview with Pryamoy TV channel.
“The shortage of troops is huge. When you go to the front, the first question is: ‘When will there be a new recruitment?...’ I have never heard so many words towards Ukrainian politicians,” Lutsenko said.
According to the former minister, Ukraine will not have time to train new soldiers for decisive battles. “Everyone understands that the fate of this war will be decided in April, maximum in May. But the soldiers still need time to train. This requires at least three months,” Lutsenko explained.
On February 7, 2024, the Ukrainian Parliament passed a controversial bill on tightening military conscription at its first reading. The draft law on conscription, prepared by the Government of Ukraine, was submitted to the Parliament on January 30.
Unlike the previous version, this bill does not propose calling up people with disabilities, but it significantly tightens the process. According to the new draft, people subject to military service must appear at the military registration office to confirm their registration within 60 days from the date of the call-up notice. The call-up notice can be sent to the electronic account of the person subject to military service.
If this person fails to appear at the military registration office within the prescribed time, his/her right to travel abroad and to drive a vehicle may be restricted and his/her account may be frozen.
The bill requires citizens between 18 and 60 years old to carry their military registration papers during deployment and present them upon request to military registration officers, police and border guards.
