French police clash with "yellow vest" protesters in Paris

On December 1, French police had to use pepper spray and smoke grenades to disperse a crowd of extremist "yellow vest" protesters who tried to break through security barriers on the Champs Elysees Avenue in Paris right before the third march to protest the government's decision to increase fuel prices took place that evening.
Police say they have arrested more than 60 people amid fears that violent far-right and far-left elements may be infiltrating the "yellow vest" movement, a protest movement against rising fuel prices and costs that has gained widespread support.

The 41st President of the United States, George HW Bush, passed away on December 1 after a long illness at the age of 94. Jim McGrath, a spokesman for the Bush family, confirmed that Bush "father" passed away at 10:10 p.m. on November 30 (11:10 a.m. on December 1, Hanoi time) at the Houston State Hospital, but did not provide further information. McGrath said the family would announce the funeral arrangements later.
Former President Bush Jr., Barack Obama and Bill Clinton paid tribute to the 41st President of the United States. The White House announced on the same day that Trump and First Lady Melania will attend the funeral of former President Bush. The President will also call George W. Bush Jr. to express his condolences. Trump plans to choose December 5 as a national day of mourning. The state ceremony will take place at the Washington National Cathedral and is being prepared.

South Korean military border monitoring equipment detected a North Korean soldier crossing the military demarcation line within the Joint Security Area (JSA) between the two countries at 7:56 a.m.,YonhapDecember 1 quoted a statement from the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). "Relevant agencies are planning to investigate in detail about this person and how he came to South Korea," the JCS said, confirming that the North Korean soldier had been detained by the South Korean side.
This is the first defection of North Korean soldiers after the two countries completely destroyed 10 guard posts on each side in the demilitarized zone (DMZ), in accordance with the agreement the two countries' leaders reached in September to reduce tensions.
Iran "trades oil for goods" to avoid US sanctions

Iran announced on December 1 that it had completed an oil-for-goods deal with South Korea as a way to "avoid" the sanctions that the US recently reimposed on the Islamic country. Speaking to state news agency IRNA, President of the Iran-Korea Chamber of Commerce Hossein Tanhayi said the two sides had promoted a mechanism to exchange Iran's oil exports for goods imported from South Korea.
Last month, the US unilaterally reimposed restrictions on Tehran’s oil exports after withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal in May. The new US measures also target Iran’s banking sector and the ability to access US dollars, but not its commodity trading activities.
