Fireflies in spring night, cherry blossom river and mountain sunrise are three of the impressive April photos on National Geographic.
The harsh weather and heat of the Israeli desert caused the gecko to dry out while still retaining its shape. "When I looked into its eyes, I felt like it was alive. Its eyes kept looking into mine no matter which direction I looked," said photographer Yair Dvir.

He focused on the flashes of light during the storm, only later when reviewing the photo did he notice the stars in the frame.
