Ministry of Public Security asks officers to reduce meetings to urge traffic safety

The Ministry of Public Security has just issued an official dispatch directing the police of provinces and cities to focus on ensuring security, order and traffic safety during the 2018 Lunar New Year, with the highest goal of limiting traffic accidents and congestion.

According to statistics from this Ministry, compared to December 2017, in January 2018 traffic accidents increased by over 12%, the number of deaths increased by over 11% and the number of injuries increased by nearly 6%.

Of these, 24 localities have traffic accidents that increase in all three criteria; notably, three particularly serious traffic accidents in Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Giang and Thai Nguyen killed 12 people. "Traffic congestion, especially in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City during this time, is increasingly serious and prolonged," the Ministry of Public Security's dispatch stated.

Based on the above reality, the Ministry requires local police to increase patrols, control, remind and strictly handle cases and vehicles violating traffic safety regulations, especially drivers who speed, encroach on the road, drink alcohol while participating in traffic, do not wear helmets when riding motorbikes, etc.

"Police leaders at all levels need to limit meetings and spend more time directly inspecting and urging on the roads," the dispatch stated.

The police of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces bordering the two cities are assigned to take measures to regulate traffic, minimize traffic congestion and congestion in the inner city and the routes leading to and from the inner city, especially measures to separate traffic flows, limit vehicles entering the center, adjust traffic light systems appropriately...
