The Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions provides support to ethnic minority communities affected by storms and floods in Nghe An.

The Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions has donated 550 million VND to support ethnic minority communities in Nghe An province affected by natural disasters, storms, and floods.

On the morning of September 24th,SilkDeputy Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religion Nong Thi Ha led a delegation from the Ministry to visit, work with, and provide assistance to people in flood-affected areas of Nghe An province.

Accompanying them were Mr. Lo Quang Tu, Director of the Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs; and Ms. Bui Thi Ha, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnamnet Newspaper.

Representing Nghe An province were members of the Provincial Party Committee: Phung Thanh Vinh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and Vi Van Son - Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religion.

Typhoon No. 3 in late July caused significant damage to the ethnic minority communities in Nghe An province. Specifically, the typhoon resulted in 4 deaths, 3 injuries, and the complete destruction of 484 houses; 544 houses suffered very heavy damage (50-70%), 682 houses suffered heavy damage (30-50%), and 1,092 houses suffered partial damage. The estimated economic damage was 3,814 billion VND.

Before they could recover from typhoon number 3,stormTyphoon No. 5 injured 5 people and destroyed, buried, swept away, damaged, or had its roof blown off 14,188 houses; of which 45 houses were completely destroyed and 24 houses were very severely damaged. Typhoon No. 5 caused economic damage of approximately 1,529 billion VND.

Immediately after the storms, the entire political system of the province acted decisively, urgently, and responsibly in mobilizing forces to overcome the consequences of the floods; encouraging and sharing with the people in the affected areas, helping them to quickly stabilize their lives. During the storms, the "4 on-the-spot" and "3 ready" principles were seriously and decisively implemented, significantly reducing the extent of damage caused by the natural disaster.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions shared his condolences regarding the losses and damage caused by the storms in Nghe An, which severely affected the ethnic minority and mountainous areas of the province. He also highly appreciated the timely and flexible response of Nghe An province to the storms, which helped mitigate the extent of damage to the province and its people.

Affirming that the central government, ministries, and sectors are paying special attention to and sharing the burden with localities affected by storms and floods, Comrade Nong Thi Ha pledged that support programs will aim to help people settle down after the storm.

During the working session, Deputy Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religion Nong Thi Ha presented aid to people in areas affected by natural disasters, floods, and landslides in Nghe An province, totaling 550 million VND. Specifically, 450 million VND was provided to 45 households whose houses were completely swept away or collapsed; and 100 million VND was given to Nhon Mai Ethnic Minority Boarding Primary School to repair dormitories for boarding students.

The funding is sourced from the 2025 operating budget of the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions and from socialized funding mobilized by VietNamNet Newspaper.

Thanking the Deputy Minister and the delegation, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phung Thanh Vinh affirmed that this is a valuable source of encouragement for the people in particular and the entire province in general. The leaders of Nghe An province committed to implementing the support transparently, promptly, and to the right recipients, so that the support money has practical significance and positively impacts the lives of the people.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province also shared with the delegation from the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religion the unique difficulties of the province and the efforts made in the initial stages of operating the two-tiered local government.

Comrade Phung Thanh Vinh emphasized: Providing stable housing for people after storms and floods is a key task for the entire political system. Simultaneously, the province is very concerned about ensuring stable livelihoods for people in affected areas.

In terms of long-term strategy, the province is building and developing the western region, where a large number of ethnic minorities live, in a way that maximizes potential and advantages, gradually lifts people out of poverty, preserves cultural identity, and ensures border security...
