According to a VNA reporter in Malaysia, on the morning of April 1, at the Shah Alam High Court in Selangor state of Malaysia, a confrontation session will take place for defendant Doan Thi Huong, the suspect in the murder of North Korean citizen Kim Chol.

Attending the trial were a delegation from the Vietnamese Embassy led by Ambassador Le Quy Quynh, Mr. Doan Van Thanh - the defendant's father, and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Malaysia.

At the trial on March 14, the court rejected the request to release Doan Thi Huong.

Immediately afterwards, Doan Thi Huong's defense lawyer wrote a second petition to the Malaysian Ministry of Justice and Attorney General, continuing to request that Malaysia release Doan Thi Huong as it had previously decided for Indonesian suspect Siti Aisyah.

It is expected that on the morning of April 1, the Shah Alam High Court will decide whether to release suspect Doan Thi Huong or not.

Previously, Doan Thi Huong's lawyer had filed a petition asking the Malaysian Ministry of Justice and Attorney General to release Doan Thi Huong after Indonesian suspect Siti Aisyah was released on March 11. The trial continued to receive media attention.

An estimated 100 local and international reporters covered the trial. In August 2018, the Malaysian High Court declared that it had gathered enough evidence to prove that 26-year-old Siti Aisyah, along with Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong and four other North Korean suspects who are still at large, had participated in a "well-planned plot" to kill Kim Chol.

In recent times, the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia has made many efforts to protect citizens and ensure legitimate rights for prisoners.

For typical cases, such as Doan Thi Huong's, the Embassy always closely monitors all related developments and supports the defendant's defense lawyers to the highest possible level.
