The flood suddenly struck at 8:00 p.m. on September 15 when people in the flood-prone area of Yen Tinh commune had just finished dinner.

At this time, all the manpower in Cap Chang village was focused on fighting the water god. Meanwhile, it continued to rain heavily.

No one can forget the flood that occurred exactly one year ago, sweeping away dozens of houses and causing great property damage.

Years of experience living in flood-prone areas helped Yen Tinh residents react quickly to unusual natural events. In the dark, students at Yen Tinh Secondary School managed to escape. After the flood, classrooms were devastated, desks, chairs, books and notebooks were swept away. It took more than a week for teaching and learning to return to normal.

Exactly one year later, the water god “attacked” Yen Tinh Secondary School again, and the flood also came in the same night. Fortunately, before the forecast of the possibility of flash floods, the Police and Military Command of Tuong Duong District each sent 5 soldiers to Yen Tinh to reinforce the people and forces such as the militia, youth union, and commune departments to cope. The school also had a standby team.

Mr. Luong Van Mau - an officer of Tuong Duong Police said: "At around 8 pm, the rain became heavier. When we went to check, we saw that the water was starting to rise, so we went to the houses of the people in the low-lying areas to help the people transport their belongings to a safe place."

Water and mud also flooded into classrooms at Yen Tinh Secondary School. Of these, 4 classrooms on the first floor were the most severely affected. At this time, emergency forces were mobilized to the school to transport desks, chairs, and school supplies to higher floors. After 1 hour, all assets were moved to a safe place.

On the morning of September 16, local people and forces gathered to work on overcoming the consequences of last night's flood. By noon on September 16, the school, which had suffered flash floods many times, was back to normal.

As a member of the storm response unit, teacher Nguyen Van Hung felt as if a burden had been lifted off his shoulders when, in just one morning, all the classrooms were cleared of mud. Breathing a sigh of relief, teacher Hung said as if making an announcement: “All students will return to class as usual next week.”
