Is the Ministry of Education really ready for looking up exam scores?
At 5:22 p.m. on July 22, many readers reported to VietNamNet that although they could access the Ministry of Education and Training's information portal, they could not enter the confirmation code, and were notified that the code was invalid even though the registration number had been entered correctly.
Explaining this situation, Head of Training Department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology Nguyen Phong Dien said:
“Our computer system is designed to serve about 50,000 students. At present, the number of regular accesses is in the hundreds of thousands, so the school cannot cope. The technical department has mobilized all resources but has no choice. In addition to the server system, data transmission and reception are also related to the fiber optic cable system. It is not possible to upgrade immediately.”
According to Mr. Dien: “Now we can only wait 1-2 days for the traffic to decrease before we can see the exam scores. However, it is almost August 1st when universities and colleges start accepting applications for the first round of admission. Therefore, the situation of network congestion and not being able to see exam scores is expected to be tense.”
The Ministry of Education and Training is handling the technical issues.
On the afternoon of July 22, contacted by phone, the leader of the Ministry of Education and Training only briefly informed that the Ministry is currently "technically handling" this matter.
Previously, at a press conference on July 21, in response to questions about candidates' concerns about the national high school exam score lookup website being congested due to a large number of visitors, Mr. Mai Van Trinh, Director of the Department of Testing and Quality Assurance (Ministry of Education and Training), said that when building the information portal, calculations were made to ensure smooth operation.
Mr. Trinh predicted that many candidates will access the exam sites during the first 3 days. The Ministry cannot guarantee that the entire process will run smoothly 24/7 without congestion, but it will ensure that candidates can search conveniently and without difficulty.
What is the solution?
Nguyen Phong Dien, Head of the Training Department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that if the Ministry allowed universities to announce the scores to candidates immediately after grading, things would be much easier. The concentration of data on a server of the Ministry of Education and Training caused the website thi.moet.gov.vn to be congested during the trial run.

Meanwhile, some candidates were able to access the Ministry's website but could not check their scores. |
“We understand and agree that the Ministry needs total data to analyze and evaluate in a convenient and beneficial way. However, this plan needs to be improved.
Here, the Ministry did not take into account the technical factor when centralizing the data to announce exam scores, leading to an overload situation. Remember when we started the "3 common" university entrance exam, the information data was centralized on one website. As soon as the access address was announced, the score viewing system crashed.
The simple solution of letting universities self-declare and then announce the scores is a feasible solution" - a technology expert who has experienced the university entrance exam since 2002 until now shared.
