Poor parents watch two children suffer from strange eye disease

(Baonghean.vn)- When asked about their wishes, the two children whispered: "I want to see clearly like my friends."

After school, just arriving home, Nguyen Van (15 years old), resident of Hamlet 8, Quynh Thanh Commune, Quynh Luu District, hurriedly ran into the kitchen to help his mother cook lunch. His younger sister Nguyen Thi Khanh Ly (9 years old) looked after two younger siblings while their parents worked in the garden.

For many children in this rural area, this is a completely normal job. But for the two brothers Van and Khanh Ly, it is a different story. Because, the two brothers are suffering from an eye disease. While the younger brother's eyes can still see things blurry, the older brother has one eye damaged, the other eye has very poor vision.

Hai anh em bị mờ mắt
Nowadays, the eyes of the two brothers Van and Khanh Ly are getting dimmer.

Speaking more clearly about the illness that his two children were suffering from, Mr. Nguyen Thong (41 years old) sadly said: “When they were born, the two children showed signs of eye abnormalities. But because of the circumstances, we did not take them to the doctor early and mainly treated them at home. Therefore, the illness became more and more serious.” In 2007, when Mr. Thong and his wife saw that Van’s eyes were white, they were shocked to take him to the doctor and were diagnosed with vitreous humor organization. This is a disease related to cataracts. At that time, his left eye was almost completely blurred, the other eye was only dim,” Mr. Thong recalled.

After that, the couple continued to take their child to other places for treatment, but the results were not as expected. Finally, due to difficult circumstances and lack of money for treatment, they had no choice but to leave their child at home, living with the disease.

A year after discovering Van’s illness, Thong and his wife had a baby girl. Heartbreakingly, when she was born, her eyes were closed. It wasn’t until three days later that Khanh Ly’s eyes opened.

Suspecting that their child had a problem with his eyes, Mr. Thong and his wife took him to the doctor earlier this time. And then, they were shocked to learn that Khanh Ly also had the same disease as her brother. In 2015, the child underwent eye surgery and eyelid lift. However, according to the couple, her condition did not improve.

Because their eyesight is getting worse, the two brothers have to hold their books close to their eyes when studying. Even when watching TV, they stand close to the screen. “Many days, the children just sit alone, not daring to move around for fear of falling. My husband and I are very worried…” Ms. Ho Thi Nghiem (36 years old) sighed.

Unfortunately, Van and Khanh Ly were born with eye disease, but they are both obedient and eager to learn. Every day, outside of school hours, they help their parents with household chores. Currently, Van is in 9th grade, while Khanh Ly is in 4th grade at the village school. The teachers at the school, understanding their circumstances and illnesses, always make arrangements for the two siblings to sit in convenient positions.

When asked about their wishes, the two children whispered: "I want to see clearly like my friends." Hearing her children's confidences, Ms. Nghiem quickly turned her face away, trying to hide her tears. She confided: "Not long ago, Khanh Ly asked me: Mom, why are my eyes getting dimmer and dimmer? I felt so sorry for her when I heard that. Because I know that the disease that the two children are suffering from is very difficult to treat and has a high chance of blindness." Van's eye is damaged, the other eye can only see dimly. The last time I went to the doctor, the doctor advised that Van should wait until he turns 18 to replace his eye with a prosthetic to ensure aesthetics, but treatment is not possible. As for Khanh Ly, people say that if someone donates a cornea, she will not go blind. But, that is difficult to do...

To earn money to raise their four children, the farming couple could only rely on three acres of rice fields. To support the family, Mr. Thong worked as a bicycle repairman. However, the income from the job was not much. However, the couple always tried to earn money to raise their children and hoped that a miracle would come to their two young children...

Sharing about the circumstances and illnesses of Nguyen Van and Nguyen Thi Khanh Ly, Mr. Tran Van Tai, Head of Hamlet 8, Quynh Thanh Commune, confirmed that the two children both suffered from eye diseases and suffered a lot of disadvantages. For many years, Mr. Thong and his wife had to take their children to many places for treatment, so their finances were somewhat difficult. Currently, the family is considered a near-poor household in the hamlet.
