"Our shared history should not be used as a political tool or rewritten by nations for their own benefit... The enormous courage and sacrifice of the peoples of Britain, America, the Soviet Union and all the Allies brought about the defeat of the Nazi regime," the British Foreign Office affirmed.

Those were the comments from the British Foreign Office surrounding President Vladimir Putin's article about World War II for the American magazine National Interest. The article, titled "Practical Lessons on the 75th Anniversary of World War II", in which the Russian leader expressed his views on the war, its causes and its perception in the modern world.

The Russian leader called on his partners to respect and preserve historical truth, based on past events. According to President Putin, some people try to impose a sense of guilt on Russia, claiming that the Soviet Union was responsible for the start of World War II.

Plans to rewrite history are underway in countries where internal political conflicts are raging, and some elements are seeking to incite voters.

President Putin stressed that it would be unforgivable for those who are trying to rewrite history and blame the Soviet Union for World War II.

Moreover, President Putin affirmed that Russia is always grateful for the allies' help to the Soviet Red Army during the war.

This year, Russia will hold a military parade to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany on June 24 at Red Square, Moscow, instead of May 9 as usual due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
