Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets Duc's statement on Trinh Xuan Thanh case
Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed at a regular press conference on the afternoon of August 3 about the Trinh Xuan Thanh case: "Currently, Vietnamese authorities are conducting an investigation."

Responding to Tuoi Tre's question - "Requesting the Spokesperson to provide information and response to the incident in which the German government requested the Vietnamese military attaché to leave the country within 48 hours due to allegations of involvement in an incident believed to be the kidnapping of Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh in Germany" - Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said:
“Regarding the statement of the German Foreign Ministry Spokesperson regarding the Trinh Xuan Thanh case, I regret the statement of the German Foreign Ministry Spokesperson on August 2."
AFP news agency also asked: "Has Vietnam confirmed the accusation of kidnapping Trinh Xuan Thanh? And do you think this incident will affect the diplomatic relations between the two countries? Where is Trinh Xuan Thanh now?"
German news agency DPA asked: "How do you react to the information from Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh's lawyer that he is seeking asylum in Germany?"
Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang replied: "According to the announcement on July 31 of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh has appeared and surrendered. Currently, Vietnamese authorities are investigating."
The spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also affirmed that Vietnam always values and develops its strategic partnership with Germany.
Previously, according to the AP news agency, on August 2, the German government accused Vietnamese intelligence of being involved in an alleged kidnapping of a former Vietnamese oil and gas executive (Trinh Xuan Thanh - PV) in the capital Berlin, and at the same time requested the military attaché of the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany to leave the country within 48 hours.
On the same day, the German Foreign Ministry issued an official statement on its website requesting the Vietnamese government to immediately return Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh to Germany to consider Vietnam's request for his extradition and his application for asylum in Germany.
Previously, on July 31, the Ministry of Public Security announced that Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh had turned himself in to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security. Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh has been wanted nationally and internationally since September 2016.
Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh, former Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Oil and Gas Construction Corporation (PVC), has been prosecuted for intentionally violating State regulations on economic management causing serious consequences and embezzlement./.
