Destroying the IS terrorist group is the sole goal of the US in Syria, US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said.
Reporters asked Ms. Nauert to comment on Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's statement that "It seems that the US side is trying to divide Syria."
"The United States is here to destroy ISIS, I think everyone knows that. We're here to destroy ISIS. That's the only reason," Nauert said.
Regarding the North Korea issue, Ms. Nauert said that US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson discussed with China a number of bilateral cooperation issues and further pressure on North Korea.
"During the talks, the two sides affirmed the intention of President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping to maintain pressure on North Korea for its illegal nuclear and missile programs. In addition, they discussed the issue of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation," - Ms. Nauert announced at a press conference.
The two sides also discussed a common approach in the fight against drugs, she added.
