Russian Foreign Ministry: US Ambassador to Germany was "impolite" when sending letter about Nord Stream-2
US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell “went beyond the bounds of courtesy” by sending letters to German companies threatening potential sanctions against the Nord Stream-2 project, First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Vladimir Titov said on Tuesday.
Earlier, the US ambassador in Berlin sent letters to a number of German companies, stating that there was a risk of serious sanctions related to the implementation of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project.
"The US ambassador in Berlin sent a letter threatening sanctions, which went beyond the bounds of politeness. Our partners in Berlin immediately reacted with disapproval, realizing that the United States once again demonstrated its intention to set an energy agenda, disregarding the interests of European partners," Titov said in an interview with the Arguments and Facts newspaper.
Speaking about the fate of Nord Stream-2, Deputy Minister Titov noted that the project is being implemented according to plan.
"There is no doubt that the project, which is beneficial to European businesses and consumers, will be completed. This is the view of the leaders of the participating countries and energy companies," the senior diplomat added.
