Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the ground at the Vietnam-Laos border landmark
(Baonghean.vn) - On June 14, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation led by Mr. Phan Dang Duong - Deputy Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs worked at the Thanh Thuy Border Guard Station.
Attending the meeting were leaders of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Provincial Border Guard Command and Thanh Chuong district.
Previously, the delegation surveyed the Thanh Thuy (Nghe An) - Nam On (Bolykhamxay, Laos) border gate area and the 460th border marker of Vietnam - Laos.

Currently, Thanh Thuy Border Guard Station manages 6 km of border line; manages and protects 4 markers, 2 stakes (including 1 large marker, 1 medium marker and 2 small markers).
Implementing the project to enhance and thicken the border marker system of the two States of Vietnam and Laos, by June 2011, we and our friends had completed the installation of 4 markers (markers 459, 460, 461, 462) and 2 stakes on the border section managed and protected by Thanh Thuy Border Guard Station.
Recently, Thanh Thuy Border Guard Station has coordinated with functional forces of both Vietnam and Laos to increase patrols, control, and ensure security and order in border areas and border gates.
The two sides have strengthened cooperation in fighting all types of crimes; promptly exchanged information, properly resolved incidents arising on the border in accordance with the Agreement signed by the two States; prevented the occurrence of encroachment, illegal immigration and border crossings...

In addition, the unit promotes border diplomacy and people's diplomacy, contributing to strengthening the solidarity, friendship and special cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, firmly protecting the territorial sovereignty and national border security in the area under the unit's management.
At the meeting, the unit's representative also proposed that the working delegation submit to the competent authority for consideration and decision on upgrading Thanh Thuy - Nam On border gate to an international border gate in the planning and development of Vietnam - Laos border gates until 2025, with a vision to 2035 to meet the needs of economic, cultural - social and national defense - security development in the new period.
Comrade Phan Dang Duong - Head of the working delegation highly appreciated the results that Thanh Thuy Border Guard Station has achieved in the past time, and at the same time he also noted that the station needs to improve the effectiveness of foreign affairs work in the coming time.
The proposals and recommendations of the unit and the working group will be received and recorded and submitted to the competent authority for consideration and decision.
