Major General Nguyen Manh Hung has been appointed as the General Director of Viettel.

On February 21, 2014, at the Ministry of National Defense Auditorium, General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defense, on behalf of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission, presented the appointment decision to Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy General Director of the Military Telecommunications Group, appointing him as General Director of the Military Telecommunications Group.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung will officially begin managing the Military Telecommunications Group from March 1, 2014, replacing Lieutenant General Hoang Anh Xuan, who is retiring.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, born in 1962, graduated with a degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from the former Soviet Union, holds a Master's degree in Telecommunications from Australia, and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the National Economics University. Mr. Hung was one of the first people assigned to Viettel by the Ministry of National Defense from its early days of establishment (1989). He served as Deputy Director of the Military Telecommunications Company from June 2000 and has been Deputy General Director of Viettel Group from January 2010 to the present.

The appointment of Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung is seen as maintaining Viettel's growth momentum in a context where the Vietnamese telecommunications market has entered a saturation phase, OTT services are eroding traditional telecommunications revenue, and foreign investment is becoming more difficult.

Mr. Hung will continue to steer Viettel towards the goal of becoming one of the top 20 largest telecommunications and IT companies globally, and one of the top 10 largest telecommunications companies in terms of overseas investment. Viettel's main areas of focus are telecommunications, IT, overseas investment, and research and manufacturing of equipment.
