As of March 27, imported pork increased by 312% compared to the same period in 2019. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requires large livestock enterprises to reduce the price of live pigs to 70,000 VND/kg from April 1.

On the morning of March 30, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported on the situation of African swine fever and measures to ensure pork supply.
Accordingly, as of March 27, Vietnam imported more than 39,191 tons of pork, an increase of 312% over the same period in 2019. Specifically, imports from Canada accounted for 25.81%, Germany 20.59%, Poland 13.77%, Brazil 9.68%, the US 7.65% and the Russian Federation 2.62%.

Pork prices began to "anchor" at high levels from August 2019.

Regarding pork imports from the Russian Federation and Miratorg Company, the Department of Animal Health informed that Vietnam imported 1,026 tons (13 enterprises participated in the import).

Miratorg Group said that since January 28, it has completed procedures to export over 3,465 tons of pork through 15 Vietnamese enterprises. The shipments arrived at ports on March 18 and have begun to be supplied to the market.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to direct their affiliated agencies to urgently support Vietnamese enterprises in finding suitable sources of goods in exporting countries.
At the same time, it is recommended that the Ministry of Finance consider and soon have a policy to reduce pork import tax; including a policy to reduce and exempt tax for businesses importing pork from the US.
Regarding pork prices, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that large livestock enterprises such as CP Vietnam, Dabaco, Mavin, Masan, GreenFeed, etc. have coordinated and accompanied the Government and sold live pigs at 73,000-76,000 VND/kg. However, some enterprises have not yet reduced the selling price of pork.
The agricultural agency proposed that from April 1, large livestock enterprises reduce the price of live pigs to 70,000 VND/kg in accordance with the Prime Minister's direction, moving towards lower prices, at an appropriate level when pig output reaches the high level as before the epidemic in the last quarters of 2020.
At the conference chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung with pig farming enterprises this morning, 15/15 large livestock farming enterprises in attendance committed to bringing the price of live pigs down to 70,000 VND/kg from April 1.
To date, 99% of the communes nationwide with African swine fever have passed 30 days, of which 41 provinces and cities have been free of the disease. The remaining 106 communes (accounting for 1% of the total number of communes with the disease) in 22 provinces and cities have not passed 30 days.
