Russian Defense Ministry talks about foreign mercenaries in Avdeevka
Canadian and Georgian mercenaries were with the Azov militia (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) in Avdeevka before fleeing, the Russian Defense Ministry announced.
The ministry released a new video from the liberated city, in which the assault units of the Central Group of Forces showed the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces in the area of the Avdeevka railway station. According to the Russian military, fighters from the Ukrainian nationalist unit, the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade formed on the basis of the Azov battalion, tried to hold these positions.
“At the equipped base, food refrigerators, battery charging stations, workshops, imported food and medicine supplies, including Canadian-made rations for foreign mercenaries from Canada and Georgia at the base were found, in the adjacent building there was a cache of ammunition made in the United States and the Czech Republic for 120 mm mortars,” the report said.
"According to the interrogation of a company commander of the Azov battalion, there were about 10 of them Canadians. There were also Georgians. These were mercenaries," - said a serviceman of the assault unit of the Central Group of Forces.
Another soldier nicknamed “KhMAO” also told about the interrogation of Ukrainian fighters.
“He said that Canadian mercenaries took part in the battle. We learned a lot of useful information about the enemy's positions and began to advance further based on this information. Our soldiers, our shock troops, did their job responsibly and worthily. We are proud of our work!” – said the Russian soldier.
On the night of February 17, Ukraine withdrew its troops from Avdeevka. However, the Russian Defense Ministry later said that the order was given a day after Ukrainian units began to flee the city in disarray. On February 17, the Russian Army Group Center completely liberated Avdeevka.
