Russian Defense Ministry releases new recruitment video
The Russian Defense Ministry has released a promotional video to encourage citizens to join the army, emphasizing different ethnicities and sects coming together against a common enemy.
According to RT, the 90-second video recreates several scenes on the battlefield, accompanied by a message from the Russian Ministry of Defense calling on citizens to join the army.
Russia had announced a partial mobilization in the fall of 2022, calling up some 300,000 reservists to defend a 2,000-kilometer frontline with Ukraine. But officials in Moscow have since resisted new recruitment efforts, saying manpower needs are being met by a steady stream of patriotic volunteers.
The country's defense ministry said last month that about 190,000 contract soldiers would join the military by 2024 alone, with an estimated 1,000 signing contracts every day. Last December, the ministry put the total at 640,000.
