Undated photos of the sensitive moment were shared on social media by the Rashtriya Janata Dal political party - a rival to Mr Singh's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
This action by the Indian Agriculture Minister quickly received harsh criticism from netizens. Many people thought that Mr. Singh went against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's campaign to clean up the streets.
The Swachh Bharat campaign, launched in 2014, aims to build 12 million toilets in rural areas to prevent open defecation.

Mr Singh's office has yet to comment on the incident. However, BJP spokesman Rajib Ranjan told the Hindustan Times: "There is nothing wrong with the minister doing this. One cannot hold urine for too long. What would you do if you were travelling a long distance and could not find a public toilet?"
Mr. Ranjan also said that the above photos were taken 6 months to 1 year ago.
