Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun has been indicted on charges of abuse of power and bribery.

Chinese authorities announced today, April 11, that former Railway Minister Liu Zhijun has been formally indicted on charges of abuse of power and bribery.

The Beijing People's Procuratorate has filed a complaint against Liu Zhijun with the Second People's Court. The court has accepted the case and will soon set a trial date.

Previously, in May last year, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China decided to expel former Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun from the Party for corruption and serious violations of Party discipline.

According to the committee's investigation findings, Liu Zhijun abused his power to assist Ding Yuxin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Beijing Boyou Investment Management Group, in obtaining illicit profits, causing significant economic damage and negative social impact. Liu Zhijun was also convicted of bribery and moral decay, and held primarily responsible for the serious corruption within the railway industry.
