Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien may run for VFF President position
After the scandals at the top of VFF, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism may send someone to run for election.

Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien and Deputy Minister Le Khanh Hai were recently nominated by member organizations as candidates for the position of President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) for the 8th term (2018-2022). According to Chief of Office and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Thai Binh, this week the Party Committee of the Ministry will consider nominating a leader to run for election.
At the 7th Congress, Mr. Le Khanh Hai was also introduced as a candidate for the Chairman position but withdrew. Therefore, Mr. Le Hung Dung was the only one in the race and was elected. However, in the last term, the VFF Chairman position was almost vacant, due to Mr. Dung's health problems. The main executive was Vice Chairman in charge of professional affairs, Tran Quoc Tuan.
This is the period when Vietnamese football reaped many special achievements. For example, all teams won the right to enter the final round of continental tournaments, even participating in world tournaments such as U20 or futsal... The peak was the silver medal of U23 at the U23 Asian tournament.
The deadline for candidates to run for the 8th Congress has just been extended. Currently, the list includes two candidates from the beginning: Mr. Can Van Nghia - Director of the My Dinh Sports Complex who is about to retire and Mr. Nguyen Cong Khe -former Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper. Previously, the promising candidate Tran Quoc Tuan decided to withdraw even thoughreceived many votes of confidence from the clubs.only continue to run for the position of Vice President in charge of professional affairs.
According to the original plan, the 8th Congress took place in May. However, the schedule was continuously postponed due to noisy events. From the bGermany's reaction to the criteria and candidate list, Mr. Tran Anh Tu - Chairman of VPF - asked to withdraw, Mr. Tran Manh Hung - Vice Chairman of VPF - resigned because of the leaked audio recording threatening Deputy of the Referee Board Duong Van Hien, and most recently the departure of VFF Vice Chairman in charge of communications Nguyen Xuan Gu.
According to information, the 8th Congress received an ultimatum to take place no later than September.
