Minister Thang: The railway sector needs to break free from stagnant thinking.
The Minister of Transport has requested that the railway industry innovate starting from the smallest details and improve the quality of service for passengers.
At the Vietnam Railways Corporation's 2014 Business Plan Implementation Conference this morning (January 3, 2014), Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang emphasized that the Vietnamese railway industry needs comprehensive reform in the coming period, creating a friendly image in the eyes of the people, so that railways truly become a convenient means of transportation for everyone.

Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang urged the railway industry to quickly break free from stagnant thinking and develop by applying science and technology in management, train operations, and ticket sales. Accordingly, the railway industry must innovate from the smallest things, improving the quality of passenger service, making passengers enjoy traveling by train, creating friendly and clean stations, and enhancing the quality of meals. Furthermore, it must research reducing ticket prices to create competitiveness with other modes of transport and foster a more passenger-friendly experience. In 2014, the railway industry must aim for the goals of: Convenience - Punctuality - Safety - Efficiency and Satisfaction.
Regarding train ticket sales as the Lunar New Year approaches, Minister Dinh La Thang demanded a revolutionary change in ticket sales practices, emphasizing that the current system cannot be improved. The long-term goal for the railway system is safety, punctuality, and improved service quality. In 2014, a plan is needed to increase employee income; labor must be reorganized, unit price standards restructured, and cost-saving measures implemented to reduce expenses…”
At the conference, representatives from the Vietnam Railways Corporation stated that, starting in January, the industry will select and implement an automated train ticketing technology proposed by FPT and VNPT, with its application to passengers scheduled for August 2014. The industry is also testing the application of GPS technology for journey monitoring. In particular, calculations are being made to save costs and reduce train ticket prices in a reasonable manner.../.
