(Baonghean.vn) - The US seems to be considering options to ensure the success of negotiations with North Korea on denuclearization. This is the assessment made by South Korean Unification Minister Kim Yeon-chul after a meeting with US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun in Washington.

Mr. Kim Yeon-chul said that during the meeting, the two diplomats frankly discussed many issues regarding the current relations between the two Koreas, including the construction of the currently suspended tourist area on Mount Kumgang.

Previously, North Korea threatened to demolish all the facilities that South Korea had built at this tourist area to build its own tourist area.

However, Mr. Kim Yeon-chul refused to elaborate on the comment that the US is considering options in negotiations with North Korea, citing the current sensitive period.

North Korea has repeatedly warned of seeking a “new solution” if the United States does not come up with an acceptable proposal by the end of the year.

North Korea yesterday continued to declare that it is not interested in "futile negotiations" with the United States and that the United States must withdraw its hostile policies before any negotiations with North Korea.

Kim Yeon-chul once again reaffirmed the commitment to close cooperation between the United States and South Korea in the process of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, towards establishing lasting peace in the region. Kim Yeon-chul will deliver an important speech at a forum in Washington tomorrow.
