Minister Tran Hong Ha swims in the rain at the beach in Central Vietnam

After scientists announced that the seawater in the Central region "meets standards", the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and many leaders went swimming and ate seafood in Quang Tri.

On the afternoon of August 22, despite heavy rain in the Central region, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha and leaders of Quang Tri province went swimming at Cua Viet beach (Gio Linh district, Quang Tri).Before that, the Minister's delegation enjoyed seafood at Cua Viet beach.

"Up to this point, do you see the beautiful sea, do you like swimming in the sea? Scientists say the sea in the Central region is safe. The research is very methodical, with many objections. Why don't we swim in the sea?", Minister Tran Hong Ha shared.

The same morning, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment chaired a conference to announce the quality of seawater in four central provinces after the mass fish deaths. According to the scientific council, the seawater in the central region has "met the standards" for swimming and aquaculture activities, but whether or not sea fish are safe "needs further research from the Ministry of Health".

In April 2016, the phenomenon of mass fish deaths originated from a number of fish cages near the Vung Ang industrial park (Son Duong, Ky Anh, Ha Tinh), then spread to Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue, causing hardship for people in the four provinces.

To find the cause, 7 ministries, research institutes, and 100 domestic and foreign scientists joined in. After nearly 2 months, Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Company Limited admitted to being the direct cause of the fish deaths, pledging to pay 500 million USD in compensation to remedy the consequences and improve the environment.
