On November 19th and 20th, 2014, the Ministry of Information and Communications issued a decision to fine five online newspapers, including Thanh Nien, Tien Phong, Mot The Gioi, Infonet, and Tri Thuc Truc Truc, for publishing articles containing inaccurate information.
Specifically, on November 19, 2014, the Ministry of Information and Communications issued a decision to fine the online newspaper Thanh Nien 15 million VND for publishing an article titled "Hanoi ranks among the world's top 10 for... pickpocketing" on October 30, 2014, which contained inaccurate information that negatively affected the reputation, image, and economic and tourism development of the capital city. The fine was applied according to Point a, Clause 3, Article 8 of Government Decree 159/2013/ND-CP dated November 12, 2013, on administrative penalties for violations in journalistic and publishing activities.
