Man fined 7.5 million VND for defaming traffic police on Facebook
A personal Facebook account posted on social media a photo of a traffic police task force performing its duties with the caption “Still stealing people’s money on the 29th of Tet” and was promptly verified and handled by the authorities.
On February 11, Dien Ban Town Police (Quang Nam) announced that they had just issued a decision to administratively fine Mr. H.D.L (born in 1972, residing in Dien Phuong Ward, Dien Ban Town, currently residing in Dien An Ward, Dien Ban Town) for the act of "Providing and sharing fake information, false information, distorting, slandering, insulting the reputation of agencies, organizations, honor, and dignity of individuals" with a fine of 7.5 million VND.
Previously, through monitoring the situation on cyberspace, Dien Ban Town Police discovered that at 11:15 p.m. on February 8, a personal Facebook account posted on social media a photo of a traffic police task force performing its duties with the content "On the 29th of Tet, they still go around stealing people's money".
During the verification process, on February 9, the Dien Ban Town Police Security Force identified the user of the above personal Facebook account as Mr. H.D.L, so they coordinated with Dien An Ward Police to invite Mr. L to the police station for questioning.
Through the struggle, Mr. L admitted that due to his lack of knowledge of the law, at around 11:15 p.m. on February 8, Mr. L used his personal Facebook account to post on Facebook an article with false content that affected the honor and reputation of the Traffic Police force in particular and the Public Security Force in general.
After being analyzed by the police officer for his violation, Mr. L realized his violation, promptly deleted the offending post, posted a correction, and publicly apologized on his personal Facebook page.
