'Bom Hieu' - the man who shot his opponent in the stomach has his sentence reduced

(Baonghean.vn) - Due to a previous personal conflict, when he met "Bom Hieu", Dinh punched him repeatedly in the face. Hieu pulled out a gun and shot, injuring two people. The two groups of young men then got into a fight, causing chaos in Vinh city.
The High People's Court in Hanoi has just opened a criminal appeal trial of Hoang Khac Hieu, aka "Bom Hieu" (born 1991), residing in Quang Trung ward, Vinh city, for the crimes of murder and illegal possession and use of military weapons.
In this case, there are 5 other accomplices including: Le Trong Duc, Le Ngoc Anh, Pham Duc Nghia, Nguyen Viet Tuan, Nguyen Hong Quan for the crime of disturbing public order.
According to the investigation agency, at about 8:00 p.m. on October 20, 2018, Hieu and a group of friends went to a restaurant on VI. Lenin Street to eat and drink to celebrate Vietnamese Women's Day.
While they were eating, Nguyen Gia Dinh, Le Ngoc Anh and some other people drove to the restaurant. Seeing Hieu eating, Dinh walked over and called out, “Bom Hieu.”

Hearing someone calling, Hieu turned around and was punched repeatedly in the face by Dinh. Seeing Hieu suddenly being beaten, the group sitting at the same table grabbed cups, glass bottles and used chairs to chase and beat Dinh. Being beaten, Hieu stood up, pulled out a pistol and chased and shot Dinh, causing the victim to be shot in the stomach.
Seeing Dinh being shot, about 5-6 people holding knives and swords rushed from the car to chase and beat Hieu. Bom Hieu and the people with him ran away in all directions. After running about 100 meters, some people were chasing and blocking him, so Hieu turned back and met Le Ngoc Anh chasing after him with a long sword. At that time, Ngoc Anh was standing about 2 meters away from Hieu when Hieu used his gun to shoot him once in the left shoulder. After being shot, Ngoc Anh continued to hold the sword and, along with some other people, held bamboo poles to chase Hieu.
After running a short distance, Hieu tripped and fell. Seeing his opponent fall, Ngoc Anh rushed over and grabbed the gun, then together with others used swords and bamboo poles to beat Hieu. Hieu escaped into the restroom of a nearby apartment building, called his wife to come pick him up, and fled to Hanoi for treatment.
Dinh and Ngoc Anh were then taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. The victims suffered bullet wounds to the abdomen and back, requiring multiple surgeries.
On October 25, 2018, Hoang Khac Hieu turned himself in and confessed to all his crimes.
The first instance trial held at the end of August 2019 sentenced Hoang Khac Hieu to 6 years in prison for murder and 1 year in prison for illegal possession and use of military weapons. The total sentence that defendant Hieu must serve is 7 years in prison.
Sentenced Le Ngoc Anh to 30 months in prison, Le Trong Duc to 24 months in prison, Nguyen Hong Quan to 27 months in prison, Nguyen Viet Tuan to 24 months in prison, Le Ngoc Anh to 30 months suspended sentence, Nguyen Gia Dinh to 15 months suspended sentence for the crime of disturbing public order.

The remaining defendants presented difficult family circumstances and asked for reduced sentences and suspended sentences.
Considering the case as a whole, the Court of Appeal partially accepted the defendants’ appeal. Sentenced Hoang Khac Hieu to 5 years in prison for Murder and 1 year in prison for Illegal Possession and Use of Military Weapons. Defendant Hieu’s total sentence was 6 years in prison.
Sentenced Le Ngoc Anh to 18 months in prison, Le Trong Duc to 12 months in prison for disturbing public order. Defendants Nguyen Hong Quan to 27 months in prison, Hoang Duc Nghia to 24 months in prison, Nguyen Viet Tuan to 24 months in prison but given suspended sentences.
