The pressure pipe system for the non-electric water supply module uses pump technology combined with a turbine with a capacity of 1,500 m3/day and night.

Scientists from the Vietnam Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources and the Institute of Water and River Basin Management - Water Resources Management and Environmental Engineering (KIT) of the Federal Republic of Germany have researched and installed a pressure pipe system for a non-electric water supply module (PAT technology) in Dong Van district, Ha Giang province.

Thanks to PAT technology, water is brought from Seo Ho hydropower plant (705 m altitude) to the reservoir located in Ma U (1,250 m altitude), then distributed to Dong Van town and neighboring communes.

The reason why electricity is not needed is because the research team took advantage of the pressure difference of the water column (H) that is stored and used to rotate the turbine system. When the turbine system rotates, it will create a certain amount of kinetic energy.

This energy can be converted into electricity in hydroelectric plants. However, in reality, that kinetic energy is transferred to another turbine system that is directly connected to a high-pressure pump system. This pump system will pump some of the water up high pressure.

PAT pump technology does not use external energy sources, it also allows electricity generation to light and operate the pump system itself and water supply can be applied to hydropower.

Thanks to this system, people in Dong Van town and surrounding areas have been provided with clean water (more than 1,500 m3/day and night) completely automatically based on water power without using any other energy source.

The task of "Researching and implementing technology for sustainable exploitation and use of resources in Vietnam's limestone mountains, applying experimentally in some areas of the Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark, Ha Giang" belongs to the International Cooperation Program on Science and Technology implemented under the Protocol managed by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
