According to Dr. Ta Huy Thinh, the above proposal was made after the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources completed a survey and research on insect diversity on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, the western branch, from Quang Ninh district (Quang Binh) to Phuoc Son district (Quang Nam).
Dr. Thinh also said that the level of insect diversity at the survey points along the route was generally high, approximately equal to that of national parks, nature reserves, and special-use forests previously studied.
During this research, scientists recorded the presence of more than 3,000 species, 15 orders of insects, adding 350 species to Vietnam's natural treasure, of which 16 species of conservation value have been included in the Vietnam Red Book or other legal protection regulations.
