Four insect species are about to be added to the Red List.
Scientists from the Vietnam Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources have proposed adding four insect species to the Vietnamese Red Book..
Those four species include: the three-horned horned beetle (Chalcosoma causasus), the flower-patterned flying crab (Kontum Cheirotonus gestroi Pouillaude), the Indochinese large-horned beetle (Neocerambyx vitalisi Pic), and the oblong-bellied leaf beetle (Phyllium bioculatum Gray).

The three-horned beetle with spines is one of four species proposed for inclusion in the Vietnamese Red Book.

According to Dr. Ta Huy Thinh, the above proposal was made after the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources completed a study on insect diversity along the western branch of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, from Quang Ninh district (Quang Binh province) to Phuoc Son district (Quang Nam province).
Dr. Thinh also stated that the level of insect diversity at the survey points along the route was generally high, comparable to that of previously studied national parks, nature reserves, and special-use forests.
During this research, scientists recorded the presence of more than 3,000 species, belonging to 15 insect orders, adding 350 species to Vietnam's natural resources. Of these, 16 species of conservation value have been included in the Vietnam Red Book or other protected species under the law.
