Vietnam table tennis won the mixed doubles gold medal at SEA Games 32 after 24 years of waiting

After convincingly passing the semi-finals of the mixed doubles, the pair Anh Hoang - Mai Ngoc entered the final match with two Singaporean players Clarance Zhe Yu Chew - Jian Zeng.

The final match was constantly in a chase. Set 1 was exciting and ended with a 13-11 victory for the two representatives of Vietnam.

Entering set 2, Mai Ngoc - Anh Hoang continued to play with determination and won with a score of 11-8.

Entering set 3, Clarance Zhe Yu Chew - Jian Zeng played hard. Mai Ngoc - Anh Hoang, although leading at times, could not maintain their advantage. Their opponents took the lead and ended up with an 11-8 victory, lighting up hopes of turning the situation around.

Like set 1, set 4 was full of tension and excitement. When the 2 Vietnamese players had their 3rd championship point, Anh Hoang set the ball and immediately made his opponent miss. The mixed doubles final ended with an emotional 3-1 victory (13-11, 11-8, 8-11 and 14-12) for Mai Ngoc - Anh Hoang.

The mixed doubles event of Vietnamese table tennis is not expected much, when Thailand and Singapore are candidates for the Gold medal.

The two Vietnamese athletes themselves are quite young, Dinh Anh Hoang is 21 years old this year, and Tran Mai Ngoc is 19 years old.

After the mixed doubles Gold Medal of Vu Manh Cuong/Ngo Thu Thuy (SEA Games 1999), toSEA Games 32Vietnam table tennis has just won a Gold Medal in this event.

Thus, after 24 years, the couple Mai Ngoc - Anh Hoang brought home the Gold Medal for Vietnamese table tennis./.
