Vietnamese football has not yet determined its ambition to participate in the World Cup
(Baonghean.vn) - One thing worth noting is that in Vietnam's football strategy, there is absolutely no mention of the goal of participating in the World Cup at any time as public opinion has mentioned in recent times.
While Thailand and Malaysia already had their own World Cup strategies, in 2013, the Prime Minister of Vietnam approved the "Vietnam Football Development Strategy to 2020, vision to 2030", divided into 2 phases with the main goals:
• Phase 2016-2020:The men's national team and U23 men's team won the Southeast Asian or SEA Games championship (1-2 times); men's football ranked in the top 15, women's football ranked in the top 6 in Asia.
• Phase 2021-2030:Men's football ranked top 10, women's football ranked top 6 in Asia

To achieve the above goals, the strategy outlines notable solutions:
1. Send youth teams (14 - 18 years old) for long-term training (minimum 2 years) in countries with developed football.
2. Establish 03 National Football Academies under the management of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Football Federation in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
3. Building a science, technology and medical center to serve football training and a national football database.
4. Improve and professionalize the national football competition system, ensuring that U21 football players can compete in at least 20 matches per year.
5. Have a policy to encourage Vietnamese football talents abroad to compete for the national team.
6. Develop school football and street football. The number of grassroots clubs will reach 7,500 (2020) and 12,000 (2030).
7. Promote the application of science, technology and sports medicine in football management and training.
Based on the results in the past time, it can be said that Vietnamese football is gradually completing its goals in the first stage. However, maintaining the achievements is difficult, improving achievements and reaching the goals is a much more difficult task. Therefore, in order to complete the next goal, we need to have more specific and drastic actions./.
