Bosnia 3-1 Iran: Salvaging honor

June 26, 2014 08:40

Bosnia's players were able to return home with their heads held high after last night's 3-1 win over Iran. That also meant Iran's slim hopes of advancing were extinguished.

Iran:Reza (82')

Bosnia's honor began to be restored from the 23rd minute. Star striker Edin Dzeko, after many unlucky times in this tournament, finished with a tricky left foot shot to open the score.

Dzeko's goal made Iran even more determined to return the favor. Unfortunately, the Asian representative's efforts all failed in the finishing phase. Even after defeating goalkeeper Begovic, the Iranian strikers could not beat the crossbar. By the time Iran scored against Bosnia, they were already 2 goals behind. The 2-goal gap between the two sides was restored just 1 minute after Iran celebrated their goal in the 82nd minute.

Anyway, Iran managed to salvage some honor for themselves: they left with a goal in their bag. Iran was the last team to score a goal at the 2014 World Cup among 32 talented players participating in the biggest football festival on the planet in the land of Samba this summer.
