However, a Bosnian Serb leader said Serbs would not let Bosnia join NATO until the alliance resolved its differences with Russia.
The ambassadors of the US, UK and NATO on June 16 issued a joint statement calling on Bosnia to join NATO if it wants positive change in the country.
After receiving NATO's proposal, Bosnia faced mixed opinions on the issue. While the Croats and native Bosniaks supported the call, the Serbs, who supported Russia, strongly opposed the idea of joining NATO.
Western ambassadors stressed that NATO would not only help improve the security situation in Bosnia, but also that reforms in the law would contribute to improving people's lives.
