Having to endure pain to compete, "The Canadian Rose" struggled to overcome tennis player Risa Ozaki with the scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Bouchard and Ozaki are the same age (both born in 1994) and are 15 places apart in the WTA rankings. Bouchard seemed to be eliminated early like in recent tournaments, when Ozaki easily won the first set.

The Canadian beauty revealed that she had an ankle injury before the tournament and was not feeling her best, making her fans even more worried. In the first set, Bouchard won three more winners than Ozaki (12 to four), but made a lot of unforced errors (24).

The 2014 Roland Garros semi-finalist regained her composure, making just 17 unforced errors in the remaining two sets. Her strong first serves and over 90% point winning percentage helped Bouchard successfully come back to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the second round, she will meet 17th seed Anastasija Sevastova.

Another surprise happened in the first round of Roland Garros when the number one tennis player in the UKJohanna Kontawas eliminated by Su-Wei Hsieh with the scores of 1-6, 7-6, 6-4. Konta did not blame the clay court which is not her forte but praised her Taiwanese opponent.

"She surprised me with her movement on clay and her consistent play. She took advantage of the climate and her own strengths very well. I fought with all my ability," Konta said after the match.

Simona Halep, the Madrid Open champion and Italian Open runner-up this year, also eased to victory in her opening match. The third seed beat Jana Cepelova 6-2, 6-3.
