Brazil tests HIV vaccine on monkeys
Brazilian scientists said on August 5 that they have developed a vaccine to prevent the HIV virus that causes AIDS and plan to test it on monkeys this year.
The Sao Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP) said a team of scientists from the University of Sao Paulo has developed the HIVBr18 vaccine, which will block the development of the virus that causes AIDS.

Scientists say that at this point, the vaccine cannot completely eliminate HIV from the body. However, HIVBr18 has the ability to suppress HIV, making it unable to be transmitted from person to person and is not strong enough to destroy the immune system. Therefore, the results of the vaccine trial on monkeys are highly anticipated.
The team said their aim was to test different immunization methods to select the one that elicits the strongest immune response, creating the basis for human trials. The process of developing the HIVBr18 vaccine began in 2001.
Scientists chose monkeys as subjects for vaccine testing because they have an immune system similar to that of humans./.
