MPs tabled three amendments that could have changed the meaning or outcome of the March 29 debate, but none were chosen, so the government's Brexit deal will be put to a vote at 2:30 p.m. local time (9:30 p.m. Hanoi time).
On the same day, the European Union's (EU) chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said that Britain will be guaranteed a new Brexit on May 22 if the House of Commons approves the "divorce deal" that Prime Minister Theresa May agreed with EU leaders late last year.
In a tweet, Mr Barnier said: "Today's vote in the House of Commons is very important. Remember that if the 'Withdrawal Agreement of 29 March' is approved, (Brexit) will be guaranteed to extend until 22 May."
If British lawmakers do not pass the text this week, the EU believes that Britain will leave the bloc shortly after April 12, or be forced to ask the EU to extend Brexit to a new date, and this time it will be a longer period.
Meanwhile, UK Attorney General Geoffrey Cox also called on MPs to ratify the government's Brexit deal in today's vote, stressing that this is the "last chance" to ensure Brexit will be extended until May 22. Speaking to the House of Commons, Mr. Cox emphasized that the EU has agreed to an extension on the condition that the Brexit deal must be ratified this week.
