Miss Vietnam Organizing Committee: 'There was a mastermind who helped Nguyen Thi Thanh falsify documents'

On the afternoon of August 15, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Organizing Committee of Miss Vietnam 2016 held a press conference to announce information surrounding the recent controversy over contestants leaving the contest. The case of contestant Nguyen Thi Thanh was the main topic of the meeting.

Mr. Le Xuan Son - Head of the organizing committee - affirmed that Nguyen Thi Thanh did not accept the goodwill of the organizing committee when she was asked to withdraw from the contest. Regarding her statement that she had eight teeth redone due to an accident, the police agency began investigating. As a result, doctors and dentists admitted that they had certified fake documents for Nguyen Thi Thanh because they were asked by her acquaintances. According to the organizers, Nguyen Thi Thanh and those behind her have spread many rumors to defame the members of the organizing committee. "This seriously affects the image and reputation of the Miss Vietnam contest in front of the public and sponsors. The organizers said they had created conditions for Thi Thanh to withdraw peacefully, but she did not accept the organizers' goodwill.

The representative of the organizing committee added that, from the testimony of many people involved in falsifying documents for Nguyen Thi Thanh, the police are also investigating a show producer and a beauty queen for their involvement in the case of defaming the organizing committee.

"We will ask the police to investigate thoroughly. Whether or not to make public the identities of the beauty queen and the show organizer depends on their cooperation with the organizers and authorities," said Mr. Son.

After having a clear investigation conclusion about the people behind Nguyen Thi Thanh, the Miss Vietnam organizing committee will send a dispatch to the school in Hanoi - where this girl is studying, and at the same time send a letter to the authorities requesting disciplinary measures for the beauty queen related to the incident, including possibly banning this person from working in the entertainment industry for a certain period of time.

Regarding the information that the contest eliminated some potential contestants for many unclear reasons, Ms. Pham Kim Dung - Deputy Organizing Committee - affirmed: "We are working transparently, impartially and fairly. The less well-off the contestants are, the more we care because we don't want them to feel sorry for themselves. If there is any scandal related to the organizing committee, sponsors will definitely turn their backs on us."

In addition to Nguyen Thi Thanh, on August 15, contestant Nguyen Thi Ngoc Van (registration number 323) also had to stop competing because she did not meet the criteria of having "natural beauty". The organizers said Ngoc Van happily left the event.
