Many families enjoy fried and stir-fried dishes, focusing on carbohydrates and protein. Is this right or wrong?

Dr. Nguyen Trong Hung from the National Institute of Nutrition offers the following helpful advice on diet for the healthy development of the whole family:

1. Food variety

According to Dr. Nguyen Trong Hung from the National Institute of Nutrition, all foods have their own nutritional value. The important principle of eating is to ensure adequate intake of all four food groups: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals.

Of these four nutrient groups, most Vietnamese families currently focus only on carbohydrates and protein. The supplementation of vitamins and minerals is often overlooked.

"Don't just think that eating fruits and vegetables is unimportant in your daily diet. They are a source of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that help prevent chronic diseases, but unfortunately, many people often overlook them," said Dr. Hung.

Therefore, on average, each person should eat at least 200g of fruit and 300g of various green vegetables daily. Eating fruits and vegetables raw and with the pulp intact is better, and limiting those high in sugar is recommended.

2. Increase milk intake.

Dr. Hung advises people not to forget their daily milk intake. In reality, most Vietnamese people don't have the habit of drinking milk and believe it's only for young children and the sick. This is a misconception because, according to Dr. Hung, milk not only provides the necessary calcium for bone health and height development but also supplies many nutrients beneficial to the body, boosting immunity and preventing chronic diseases.

Therefore, adding milk and dairy products to your daily diet is a simple yet effective way to maintain good health. According to Dr. Hung, from children aged 1 year to adults and the elderly, a daily intake of 400-600 ml of milk is recommended, with children under 1 year old needing more.

3. Choose safe food.

According to Dr. Hung, one of the ways to protect the health of the whole family is to choose safe food, ensuring food safety and hygiene. Ideally, you should choose seasonal foods to minimize exposure to pesticides and other chemicals.

4. Limit stir-frying.

Eating too much fried food at once or eating it too quickly can negatively impact the stomach because digestion and absorption require a very complex process. In particular, it can cause the body to overheat and increase the risk of various diseases such as metabolic disorders, high blood pressure, and obesity.

According to experts, we should eat foods in their natural form to better absorb nutrients and reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses.

You should also pay attention to your protein sources, combining both animal and plant-based proteins, with a higher intake of protein from seafood than from red meat.

5. Be cautious when taking dietary supplements.

According to the doctor, if the body is deficient in certain nutrients, vitamins can be supplemented from other dietary supplements, but it is best to have regular health checkups and seek clear advice from experts regarding such supplementation.

In addition, people need to maintain a healthy lifestyle and increase physical activity. Doctors recommend that each person should engage in moderate physical activity for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
