'Every time I got good results in my exams, my mother didn't praise me. She just said that she had spent a lot of money,' the Chinese boy wrote.
According toChinanews,Nan Nan, 15 years old, in Guangzhou, is a smart, ambitious and obedient child. Under his mother's strict requirements, his academic performance has made remarkable progress. From 400th place in the whole course, Nan Nan has advanced to 200th place, the best time was 50th place, ranked 3rd in the class.
Nan Nan tried his best, but it was not enough for his mother. She always asked her son to achieve better results. That made him feel extremely pressured.
Nan Nan started showing signs of depression two years ago. He kDon't want to study, don't want to make friends and consider online games as a tool to escape reality.
Last February, during an argument with her mother, Nan Nan jumped from the third floor to the ground but luckily only suffered injuries. In early March this year, Nan Nan went to Shulan Hospital for psychiatric treatment after showing signs of mental instability. "Mom, when you read this, I will be gone. I know I was selfish in doing this. You raised me all these years, and in the end, you have nothing left. You always had to stay up late and wake up early to work, to earn money to buy me whatever I wanted, no matter how expensive it was..."
Those were the first lines of the will that Nan Nan intended to leave behind. The 15-year-old boy explained clearly the pressures he had encountered and endured over the years.
"Mom said that since I come from a rural background, I must get into a good university to be successful, and my results must be in the top 10... But every time I got good results, she didn't give me any rewards. She wasn't satisfied either, she just said 'I spent a lot of money', so next time I have to do better," Nan Nan wrote.
The boy also confessed that when he was only in 5th or 6th grade, he had wanted to commit suicide. It wasn't until last winter break that his mother's words, "Please die so I can be happy," really broke him down. His unstable mentality led to his first suicide attempt.
Doctors said Nan Nan suffered from severe depression, the stress stemming from his own family. They are currently treating him, helping him to give up the suicidal thoughts that are constantly in his mind.
