Musician Tuan Khanh. |
Talking to VietNamNet about this controversial statement, musician Tuan Khanh said that this is just each person's personal opinion, so it cannot be judged right or wrong. However, Tuan Khanh especially emphasized: "Music is not a crime, it is absolutely not worth dissecting like poison. As long as the public still recognizes it, it will still exist. If more than 60% of music listeners in this country still accept bolero, then the opposing opinions of Tung Duong, Quoc Trung or Le Minh Son are just a corner of the difference."

Famous female singer Phuong Dung. |
Famous singer Phuong Dung - who has been famous for Bolero music for decades also expressed her opinion: "Frankly speaking, I do not agree with this opinion and do not understand why they think like that. Such a definition is short-sighted and shows that they do not understand much about Bolero. No music genre is inferior or inferior, outdated or backward, the difference is whether the composer and performer know how to touch the audience's heart or not".

Musician Giao Tien. |
Starting his composing career in 1965, Giao Tien is one of the famous yellow music musicians of southern Vietnam. With a musical legacy of nearly 800 songs, he is the author of many famous works that have left a deep impression on many generations of the public such as: Co Tham Ve Lang, Vo Ngua Tren Doi Co Non, Nho Nguoi Yeu, Tinh Dep Mua Chom Chom...
The veteran musician expressed his indignation: "You guys keep shouting that singing classy music is the new class, while our music is wet and rustic. But let's look at the reality of the audience and see how they react? When we compose, like you, we all want our children to be accepted. Every artist has their own path in their career, please don't judge when you don't fully understand this music genre."

Famous singer Giao Linh. |
When asked, famous singer Giao Linh also frankly expressed her opinion. According to her, there is no concept of cheesy or sophisticated music, as long as it touches the audience's heart, then for the composer and performer, it is a meaningful thing.
Regarding the controversial statements about bolero recently, the 'Queen of Sorrow' would like to not comment because each person's point of view will certainly be different due to differences in culture, region...
"Many people often say that me and other bolero singers are backward and out of date, but as long as my backwardness makes people love it, I happily accept it," Giao Linh said.
Faced with many different opinions from insiders, many audiences who love this music genre also expressed their thoughts. Most of the opinions agreed to support the development of Bolero as well as bringing this music genre back to its golden age through game shows and music programs.
Reader Huy Do commented: "Whether a music genre is young or old, creative or not creative is not determined by one or a few musicians, singers or celebrities. Whether it is young or old, creative or not, popular or classy must be judged by the public. There should be no discrimination, prejudice or notion of whether a music genre is classy or not."
Besides, there are still a few people who agree with singer Tung Duong's point of view. They also think that the current rise of bolero in the music market is just a trend and that young people who follow this music genre are mostly doing it for the purpose of making money, not necessarily because of passion or true love.
"It's hard to believe that a singer who sings pop music and started his career with a passion for pop music can quickly change his musical style. If it's not because he's following the trend to make money, I can't think of any other reason," shared member Van Duc.
