Using simple techniques, Ms. Tran Thi Yen (Phu Xuan village, Dak Nia commune, Gia Nghia town, Dak Nong) has made oranges and tangerines bear fruit out of season, earning billions of dong in profit each year.

On 2 hectares of land, Ms. Yen studied and learned techniques for growing citrus trees. Along with that, she met with experts to consult about growing this type of tree locally. After investigating suitable soil, Ms. Yen did not hesitate to borrow more than 2 billion VND to invest in implementing the idea of growing oranges.

It was not until 2011 that Ms. Yen reaped the first sweet fruits with extremely surprising profits, the value of the harvest was 4 times greater than the previous coffee garden.

Right after the initial success, Ms. Yen knew she had chosen the right path so she continued to expand the area. And this time, her family fully agreed to invest in planting another 5 hectares of oranges and tangerines.

Despite her considerable success, Ms. Yen still wanted her products to have higher value. Thinking so, she researched ways to make her garden produce fruit out of season.

After some time of research, Ms. Yen realized that oranges and tangerines only bloom when there is a lot of rain. So she came up with an idea to find a way to "force" the garden to "thirsty" in the rain. Thinking and doing, during the rainy season, Ms. Yen bought tarps to cover the entire ground, preventing the trees from absorbing water. When the rainy season was over, she pumped a large amount of water to the trees. And surprisingly, with just this simple technique, Ms. Yen made the garden bloom and bear fruit as she wanted.

Over the past three years, Ms. Yen has earned billions of dong each year thanks to her orange and tangerine garden. According to Ms. Yen, forcing the trees to bear fruit out of season does not affect productivity but the economic efficiency is much higher. In 2017 alone, Ms. Yen expects to have more than 100 tons of oranges and tangerines, earning about 4 billion dong.

With closed technology from Japan, farmers in Con Cuong district have successfully processed clean orange products including orange peel jam, orange wine, orange wine, orange soap, orange essential oil, orange syrup... which are considered premium, high-quality products. The products are sold directly at the factory and introduced at the Nghe An Investor Meeting in February 2017.
