Breakthrough in 6G technology when the speed achieved is 9,000 times faster than 5G speed
Researchers at University College London (UK) have made a groundbreaking discovery in 6G mobile data transmission, achieving speeds of up to 938 gigabits per second (Gbps), 9,000 times faster than current conventional 5G connections.
With this speed, users can download more than 20 high-quality movies per second. Imagine, when we want to watch a blockbuster movie that has just been released, with this speed, we only need to click once and the movie will appear on the screen, no longer have to wait like today.
Led by Professor Zhixin Liu, the research team achieved a spectacular breakthrough by tapping into a completely new, previously unexplored frequency spectrum. By cleverly combining radio waves and light in the frequency range from 5 GHz to 150 GHz to transmit data, they opened a new era of data transmission speeds, surpassing all imaginable limits.

The team's success comes from a unique combination of two cutting-edge technologies: high-speed electronics and microwave photonics. By using ultra-fast digital-to-analog converters to generate signals in the 5 GHz - 75 GHz frequency band.
For even higher frequencies, such as the W-band (75 GHz - 110 GHz) and D-band (110 GHz - 150 GHz), they combined light-based signals with frequency-locked lasers. The team created a completely new mobile communications system that promises to power the next generation of mobile communications.
Professor Liu compared the development to widening a narrow road into a 10-lane highway. “Just as we need wider roads to accommodate more cars, we also need larger bandwidths to transmit more data,” he said. The professor said his team is currently in talks with smartphone manufacturers and network providers to bring the technology to consumers as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Japan is leading the technological revolution with great strides in the field of 6G. A group of leading telecommunications companies in the country has made a breakthrough by developing equipment that can transmit data at breakneck speeds, 20 times faster than current 5G technology. This achievement opens up the possibility of transmitting data at speeds of up to 100 Gbps within a range of 100 meters, promising to revolutionize the way we connect and interact with the world around us.
These advances mark a major milestone in the evolution of radio access networks (RANs), opening the door to a new era of ultra-fast mobile speeds exceeding 100 Gbps. When widely adopted, this technology will revolutionize our daily lives, from more efficient work, seamless online learning to unprecedented immersive entertainment experiences.
In short, 6G technology will be a real revolution in the field of communications. With speeds and performance that surpass 5G, 6G will open up completely new possibilities, from transmitting huge amounts of data in the blink of an eye to connecting billions of Internet of Things (IoT) devices simultaneously. The future of mobile communications will be faster, smarter, and meet all the needs of digital life.
